Astronomers Discover Rectangular Galaxy - Technology Review
Astronomers Discover Rectangular Galaxy - Technology Review: "Galaxies essentially have three different shapes. The vast majority are flattened discs, often with spiral arms; some are ellipsoids, like rugby balls; and a few are completely irregular with no symmetry.
So the discovery of a galaxy with an entirely different shape is bound to generate a flutter of interest.
Today, Alister Graham at Swinburne University of Technology in Australia and a few mates announce the discovery of a dwarf galaxy designated LEDA 074886 that is distinctly rectangular. "We affectionately call [it] the “emerald cut galaxy” given its striking resemblance to an emerald cut diamond," they say."

Urinary tract infections 'are caused by CHICKENS'... and modern farming methods are making them worse | Mail Online: "More than one million women in the UK suffer from painful urinary tract infections every year. Now scientists think they may be caused by an unusual culprit - chickens.
Researchers have long suspected that the infections are caused by a person's own E. coli bacteria.
However, a new Canadian study found the germ strain most likely came from poultry."

Big Pharma Creates Resistant Tuberculosis "White Plague" | Natural Society
Big Pharma Creates Resistant Tuberculosis "White Plague" | Natural Society: "Thanks to widespread and unnecessary usage of antibiotics throughout the modern world, a heavily drug-resistant form of tuberculosis is now striking fear into the hearts of scientists and doctors alike. Affecting both poor and rich, those affected with the disease are put into quarantine and injected with a large number of super drugs. If the disease were to spread and develop, tuberculosis experts are worried that medical professionals would be helpless to stop it — at least when it comes to more of big pharma’s drugs. Natural solutions do exist, and they don’t involve the very drugs that spawned the ‘white plague’ in the first place."

US War Game of Israel Striking Iran Projects Regional War, Hundreds of American Deaths: "A classified exercise simulating war to assess the potential ramifications of an Israeli attack on Iran determined that such a strike would lead to a regional war that would suck in the United States and leave hundreds of Americans dead, according to U.S. officials quoted in The New York Times.
The two-week exercise, labeled Internal Look, was not crafted as a rehearsal for American military action, the Times quoted officials as saying. The officials also stressed that the exercise’s results were not the only possible outcome of a real-world conflict, the Times reported."

US Secret Service Confirms New Power Over Free Speech: "US Secret Service Says No Anti-Obama Rallies Allowed!
March 20, 2012, 11:28 am By Sher Zieve 6 Comments
Over the weekend I received an email from my local TEA Party Director that Barack Hussein Obama would fly into Carlsbad, NM airport on Wednesday 21 March, in order to “make an appearance at the South Easter NM oilfields.” However, apparently after hearing that an immediate anti-Obama rally had been planned, Obama and his entourage changed the landing location to Roswell, NM… a city 77 miles from Carlsbad."

90 Degrees in Winter: This Is What Climate Change Looks Like | The Nation: "Beginning in mid-March, however, its various offices began issuing bulletins that sounded slightly shaken. “There’s extremes in weather, but seeing something like this is impressive and unprecedented,” Chicago NWS meteorologist Richard Castro told the Daily Herald. “It’s extraordinarily rare for climate locations with 100+ year long periods of records to break records day after day after day,” the office added in an official statement."

Will Nuclear Megaton Shockwave Avert Earth-Bound Asteroid? « Zen Haven: "A well-placed nuclear explosion could actually save humanity from a big asteroid hurtling toward Earth, just like in the movies, a new study suggests.
Scientists at Los Alamos National Laboratory, a United States Department of Energy facility in New Mexico, used a supercomputer to model nukes’ anti-asteroid effectiveness.
They attacked a 1,650-foot-long (500-meter) space rock with a 1-megaton nuclear weapon — about 50 times more powerful than the U.S. blast inflicted on Nagasaki, Japan, to help end World War II. The results were encouraging. “Ultimately this 1-megaton blast will disrupt all of the rocks in the rockpile of this asteroid, and if this were an Earth-crossing asteroid, would fully mitigate the hazard represented by the initial asteroid itself,”"

Florida state workers face random drug tests under new law | Reuters: "The Republican governor signed the Drug-free Workplace Act, which will permit state agencies to randomly test up to 10 percent of their employees, his office said on Monday.
Tests could be conducted once every 90 days under the measure, which takes effect July 1. It would allow agencies to fire or discipline employees the first time they test positive for drugs.
Employers could choose to refer such employees to an alcohol and drug rehabilitation program."

Obama to tout green energy ‘investments’ at solar facility employing 5 workers, relying on $54 million in taxpayer subsidies | Nevada Journal: " President Obama will tout investments in “renewable” energy Wednesday at the local Copper Mountain Solar 1 plant, although the plant has only five full-time employees.
The plant, owned by San Diego-based energy company Sempra, was built in late 2010 at a cost of $141 million. Funding included $42 million in federal-government tax credits and $12 million in tax-rebate commitments from the state of Nevada.
Construction of the plant involved over 300 part-time jobs, but currently only five full-time employees operate the plant, a Sempra spokeswoman confirmed. That comes out to $10.8 million in tax-dollar subsidies per employee."

IRS may share tax info with police to fight fraud | Reuters: "In a move that could spark concerns over personal privacy, the IRS said it is considering a pilot program in Tampa, Florida, where identity theft and refund fraud are rife.
"We are limited in what we can supply to local law enforcement," said Steven Miller, deputy IRS commissioner for services and enforcement.
Tax return information is normally kept tightly secret by the IRS. Under the program, exceptions could be made, with the permission of victims of identity theft and tax refund fraud, so that bogus tax return documents could be shared with police."

China's monopoly on rare earths may soon be broken - environment - 21 March 2012 - New Scientist: "It's a rare fight. The US, Europe and Japan have lodged a formal complaint with the World Trade Organization over China's export of rare earths – or lack of it.
China produces 95 per cent of the global supply of the 17 metals, which are used in technologies from cellphones to wind turbines, but it has set up quotas restricting exports.
Despite their name, rare earths can be mined on most continents, although the cost of extraction has been too high to be economical. China's quotas may have helped push up demand – and prices – enough to make extraction cost-effective."

FBI Linked to Yet Another Domestic Terrorism Plot -- Puppet Masters -- Sott.net: "In its latest effort to panic the American public, the FBI last month fabricated an alleged al Qaeda terror plot against the U.S. Capitol Building. According to reports published by Russian news outlet RT and others, after arresting an intoxicated American-born drug dealer of Moroccan descent, FBI agents drove him to the Capitol and handed him a fake bomb before summarily rearresting him on Feb. 17.
Over the course of a year, 29-year-old Amine El Khalifi, who was clearly mentally ill and often high on cocaine and other drugs, was persuaded by an FBI informant to agree to attack the U.S. Capitol. Because El Khalifi didn't have a gun, a bomb or a car, the FBI informant graciously offered to provide him all three - and thus El Khalifi was driven to the U.S. Capitol building by the FBI, handed a gun and a bomb, and then arrested as an "al Qaeda operative." NH Woman Sued For Planting Flowers In Her Front Yard « CBS Boston: " Kimberly Bois’ tiny front yard garden isn’t much to look at right now. But in a few weeks, it’ll be in full bloom, and every blossom will cost her dearly.
Even though she says her builder gave her permission to do a little planting, the current condo board now says she’s in violation.
They’re charging the Portsmouth, New Hampshire homeowner $50 a day for being so petal pushy. That fine has reached close to $6,000, plus the board’s legal fees."

Copyright group wants libraries to pay for reading books to kids | The Raw Story: "The latest seeming overreach on the part of the copyright industry comes by way of a Belgian association known as SABAM, whose members include authors, artists, musicians, and film directors. According to Robin Wauters at The Next Web, SABAM recently began notifying local libraries that it intended to charge them for having books read out loud to children.
“Twice a month, the library in Dilbeek welcomes about 10 children to introduce them to the magical world of books,” Wauters explains, citing a report in the local newspaper. “A representative of the library in question is quoted in the De Morgen report as saying there’s no budget to compensate people who read to the kids, relying instead on volunteers.”"

CLICK FOR MORE: Study blames obesity epidemic on rising CO2 levels | The Raw Story: "That is the conclusion of Danish researcher Lars-Georg Hersoug, who examined 22 years worth of data on weight gain in Denmark and found that skinny people showed proportionately as much weight gain as those who were already overweight. This suggested to him that the cause must lie not in lifestyle but in some more general factor, a possibility supported by data showing eight different species of laboratory animals also gaining weight despite being fed a controlled diet.
But why blame CO2?"
