BBC News - Antimatter belt around Earth discovered by Pamela craft
BBC News - Antimatter belt around Earth discovered by Pamela craft: "A thin band of antimatter particles called antiprotons enveloping the Earth has been spotted for the first time.
The find, described in Astrophysical Journal Letters, confirms theoretical work that predicted the Earth's magnetic field could trap antimatter.
The team says a small number of antiprotons lie between the Van Allen belts of trapped 'normal' matter.
The researchers say there may be enough to implement a scheme using antimatter to fuel future spacecraft."

Who Owns Your Genes? The Case Continues… » Blog of Rights: Official Blog of the American Civil Liberties Union: "Today, a divided appellate court upheld patents on two human genes associated with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. The ruling partially reverses a landmark decision by a federal district court in March 2010 that concluded that human genes cannot be patented. The appellate court did affirm the district court’s invalidation of several claims on methods for comparing two genetic sequences.
The decision today allows companies like Myriad Genetics, which controls the patents on the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, to exclude others from testing and conducting research on patented genes. Patients who want to obtain genetic testing to determine whether they are at risk for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer have only one option for full genetic sequencing: Myriad Genetics. Myriad decides what tests are offered, which mutations are included, at what cost, and what research can be conducted without fear of patent infringement liability."

PressTV - 'NATO planning military attack on Iran'
PressTV - 'NATO planning military attack on Iran': "Russia's envoy to NATO Dmitry Rogozin says the NATO is planning a military strike against the Islamic Republic to overthrow the Iranian government.
Rogozin said in an interview with Russia's Izvestia daily newspaper published on Friday that the NATO was pursuing a long-reaching goal of preparing an attack on Iran, adding that the alliance intends to change governments whose views do not coincide with those of the West.
'The noose around Iran is tightening. Military planning against Iran is underway. And we are certainly concerned about an escalation of a large-scale war in this huge region,' Rogozin added.
The Russian envoy further pointed out that Syria and later Yemen could be NATO's last steps on the way to launch an attack on Iran.
This comes as there are speculations that Israel is preparing for an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities to divert attention from Palestinian efforts to join the United Nations.
Last month, former CIA agent Robert Baer said he is almost certain that such an attack has been scheduled for September ahead of a UN vote on recognizing a Palestinian state."

NYPD cop acquitted of rape gets prison for misconduct
NYPD cop acquitted of rape gets prison for misconduct: "A former police officer, cleared of rape charges but convicted of official misconduct, was sentenced on Monday to one year in prison for repeatedly returning to the apartment of a drunken woman while on duty.
Former New York City Police Officer Kenneth Moreno and his co-defendant, former Officer Franklin Mata, were accused of helping an intoxicated fashion executive into her East Village apartment in 2008, then returning to the apartment three separate times and raping her while she lay semi-conscious and helpless.
Moreno testified he had only cuddled with her in bed and had returned to the apartment to counsel her on binge drinking."

Gold soars to record above $1,700 on debt fears | Reuters: "Gold vaulted to record highs above $1,700 an ounce on Monday, surging nearly 3 percent as European Central Bank's buying of Italian and Spanish bonds failed to ease debt fears after Standard & Poor's cut the top-notch AAA credit rating of the United States."

» Pollster: Americans Are “Pre-Revolutionary” Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind!: "Amidst riots in central Europe that have now spread to London and a debt downgrade that threatens to plunge the United States into a double-dip recession, Americans’ lack of confidence in their leadership is so crippled that they are now “pre-revolutionary,” according to pollster Pat Caddell.
A new Rasmussen poll shows that just 17 per cent of Americans believe that the U.S. government has the consent of the governed, an all time low. This dovetails with a record low for Congress’ approval rating, which stands at a paltry 6 per cent, while 46 per cent of Americans think most members of Congress are corrupt, with just 29% believing otherwise."

My Way News - New unrest in north London a night after rioting
My Way News - New unrest in north London a night after rioting: "New unrest erupted on north London's streets late Sunday, a day after rioting and looting in a deprived area amid community anger over a fatal police shooting.
Police deployed extra officers on London's streets to prevent a repeat of Saturday's violence in north London's Tottenham area, which appeared to be quiet Sunday night.
But disturbances broke out in Enfield, about 5 miles (8 kilometers) north of Tottenham. TV footage showed riot and mounted police patrolling the streets, and there were also images of smashed shop windows, and police with dogs detaining at least one man.
A peaceful protest against the killing of a 29-year-old man in Tottenham degenerated into a Saturday night rampage, with rioters torching a double-decker bus, destroying patrol cars and trashing a shopping mall in the nearby Wood Green district."

US helicopter 'crashed in Taliban trap' - Yahoo! News
US helicopter 'crashed in Taliban trap' - Yahoo! News: "The Taliban lured US forces into an elaborate trap to shoot down their helicopter, killing 30 American troops in the deadliest such incident of the war, an Afghan official said Monday.
A total of 38 people -- 30 US troops, many of them special forces, plus seven Afghan commandos and an interpreter -- were killed when their Chinook came down during an anti-Taliban operation late Friday.
The crash marked the biggest single loss of life for American and NATO forces since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan toppled the Taliban in late 2001, shortly after the September 11 attacks."
