East Coast Quake Reportedly Felt In Chicago « CBS Chicago: The 5.9 magnitude earthquake that rattled the East Coast on Tuesday may have been felt here in Chicago.

Immediately after the quake hit in Virginia, the City of Chicago reported that they received several 911 calls about shaking and rattling in the city.

Several people in the northern suburbs, including Evanston, Skokie and Deerfield, reported feeling mild shaking in their offices.

The pinnacles are the top stones on the cathedral's towers.

Richard Weinberg, director of communications for the cathedral, said the cathedral has been evacuated and stone masons are assessing the damage.

The North Anna Power Station, operated by Dominion Power, has two reactors. Both reactors tripped automatically at the time of the quake and shut down.

The plant declared an "unusual event" in the wake of the 5.9 magnitude quake, which is the lowest stage on the plant's emergency scale.

As a result, the plant has been shut down.

On top of the $160 billion in loans from the Treasury Department, banks — including those based overseas — borrowed $669 billion from the Fed, with the Fed's peak balance at one point reaching a staggering $1.2 trillion.
According to Bloomberg, the $1.2 trillion is about the same amount as homeowners owe on 6.5 million delinquent mortgages, three-times the size of the federal deficit in 2008, and more than the total earnings of federally insured banks in the last decade.

PAIR OF RATTLERS: 5.8 quake hits W.Va.; 5.3 strikes Colorado, New Mexico - ContraCostaTimes.com: A 5.8 magnitude earthquake centered northwest of Richmond, Va., shook much of Washington, D.C., and was felt as far north as Rhode Island and New York City.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake was 3.7 miles deep. Shaking was felt at the White House and all over the East Coast, as far south as Chapel Hill, N.C. Parts of the Pentagon, White House and Capitol were evacuated. The quake was in Mineral, Va., in Louisa County.
Meanwhile, the strongest earthquake to strike Colorado in more than 40 years shook awake hundreds of people, toppled groceries off shelves and caused minor damage to homes in the southern part of the state and in northern New Mexico. No injuries were reported as aftershocks continued Tuesday.
"Here we go again, there's another one starting. We got to get out of here," said Garry Ringo, owner of Ringo's Super Trading Post in the small town of Segundo, Colo., as bottles on shelves rattled in the background during an interview with The Associated Press.

Libya rebels capture Kadhafi's Tripoli compound: AFP: Rebel fighters captured Moamer Kadhafi's heavily defended Bab al-Aziziya compound and headquarters in Tripoli on Tuesday after a day of heavy fighting, an AFP correspondent witnessed.
There was no immediate word on Kadhafi's whereabouts after the insurgents breached the defences as part of a massive assault that began in the morning.
