How to save $1 million? Double-sided copies and canceling Christmas cards is all it takes, says city: "City hall has a simple plan to save $1 million a year: Make double-sided copies.
A memo distributed to agency heads last week orders them to obey a widely ignored city law requiring double-sided copying, as part of a new 'Quick Cost Savings program.'
'It will target needless and often hidden costs that, over the course of time, have become an accepted part of business,' Deputy Mayor Stephen Goldsmith wrote in the memo, obtained by the Daily News.
'The savings will add up, and they will help us cultivate the culture of frugality necessary to weather tough times.'
The memo asks city workers for suggestions on more cuts.
City Hall has begun eliminating some subscriptions, stopping the purchases of bottled water and shutting off power to computers that aren't being used."
