Florida DOT, Faneuil, 8 officials sued for big $-bill stops and questions | TOLLROADSnews: "Florida DOT, Faneuil and eight officials involved in toll collection on Florida's Turnpike are defendants in a class action suit that claims motorists paying with $20 bills and above were unlawfully detained on a systematic basis by toll collectors demanding identification and other "personal information" before the toll gate was raised. The complaint lodged in US District Court in Tampa comes from Joel E Chandler, a Lakeland man who tells us this is the 26th suit he has filed in court against government wrongdoing.
Chandler worked with his younger brother Robert Chandler to gather evidence including surreptitious camera recordings of toll transactions and interactions with toll booth staff that he says constitute unlawful detention at a toll gate by people unwilling to provide "personal information." The Chandler brothers and Joel Chandler's wife Deborah are the three complainants in the suit.
