Cold Snap Kills Over 600 In Eastern Europe - Skim That: "Since the end of January, Eastern Europe has been hit with an abnormally cold winter and the heaviest snowfall in recent history. Over 600 people have died across Eastern Europe and many were homeless.
Eastern Europe has been hit by a cold snap from the north while the southern Balkans has suffered heavy snowfall. 22 countries have issued warnings for extreme cold temperatures and accumulating snow. Temperatures have reached -24 Celsius and over 39 inches of snow have accumulated in some areas over the last 2 weeks.
Romania and Serbia have declared a state of emergency and tons of food is being flown in to the worst affected areas. Tens of thousands are stranded due to major roads and trains being shut down and soldiers have been sent to clear roads and help those trapped by the snow."
